Apple Invests USD45 Million for First China-Based R&D Center in Beijing

(Yicai Global) Sept. 29 -- Global smartphone giant Apple Inc. has recently set up its first directly invested in research and development center in China in Beijing, dedicated to the development of computer software and hardware, communications, audio and video devices and other advanced technologies.

Tim Cook, Apple's chief executive, said during his August visit to China that as its local team grows, Apple hopes to set up a new R&D center in China to create products that are more suitable for Chinese users and to strengthen cooperation with its local partners and universities.

Media reported that Apple will invest CNY300 million in the R&D center, employing about 500 people.
