(Yicai Global) June 26 -- Ant Financial Services Group's Alipay has cooperated with Japanese convenience store operator Lawson Inc. [TYO:2651] to ply promotional activities in China and Japan, under which summer holiday travelers can get e-coupons and participate in giveaways, state-run Xinhua news agency reported on June 23.
This is Lawson's first cross-border sales promotion. The Alipay Bonus plan will start July 11, at which point Lawson customers in China and Japan and those who pay bills by Alipay from Sunday to Thursday can get spending-based bonuses that can be used as cash in any Lawson store on the following Saturday or Sunday, Lawson said on June 23.
From July 24, tourists who use Alipay at Lawson stores in China will get a USD0.27 (JPY30) coupon for Japan Lawson's popular food item Karaage Kun, while those who pay with Alipay at Japanese Lawson locations will get a USD0.29 (CNY2) coupon for popular beverages at China's Lawson stores.
Lawson and Ant Financial Services agreed to another promotion in Japan on June 15. One year from July 1, those who paid with Alipay's credit service Ant Check Later in Japan's Lawson stores can get cash back and those who pay by Alipay in Japan's Lawson stores on Saturdays can get coupons that can be used for online shopping, travel and other services provided by Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. [NYSE:BABA] and Ant Financial Services.
Lawson is one of the three largest convenient store chain groups in Japan, and has more than 13,000 stores in Japan and nearly 1,100 stores in China. Alipay entered the Japanese market in December 2015, and became available at all Japanese Lawson outlets from January 24 this year.
