(Yicai Global) Dec. 5 – Rovio Entertainment Ltd., developer of the popular mobile game "Angry Birds," has recently set up a new spin-off company, Hatch Entertainment, a subscription-based video game provider. The company said Hatch will have technology cooperation with Huawei Technologies Co., in a bid to lead the next revolution in the mobile games industry, namely providing streaming video games services based on cloud technology.
Hatch's cloud server technology has been launched in cooperation with Huawei.
"Spotify and Netflix have changed the way people listen to music and watch movies, YouTube and Instagram simplified the way of content sharing and created online celebrities in the new era. But not much of a similar breakthrough can be found in the field of games," Juhani Honkala, Hatch CEO and former vice president of Rovio, told Yicai Global.
Apart from creating streaming video platform, the newly-launched Hatch is also equipped with stronger social networking function, allowing more players to join by invitation and sharing functions, he said. "We expect that games will not be used to kill time, but they will instead help people spend quality time with their friends and families. Currently games make people more isolated, and we hope to change such trend," he added.
