Alibaba's Office Messaging App DingTalk Affirms Global Strategy Alibaba's Office Messaging App DingTalk Affirms Global Strategy

(Yicai) June 21 -- DingTalk, a workplace messaging app owned by e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding, has confirmed its "going global" plan, with many Chinese firms accelerating their overseas expansions.

DingTalk is serving the overseas needs of its existing customers and has been providing services to hundreds of Chinese companies, including Jinko Solar Holding, Trina Solar, and Sungrow Power Supply, it told Yicai. Internally, it defines going global as a strategic project, it added.

DingTalk should help companies solve cross-border and cultural challenges during their globalization, focusing on digital security and compliance issues, Yang Meng, president of DingTalk's global business, said last December.

DingTalk can offer end-to-end security management and control from data storage to network transmissions and terminal safety, Yang noted. It can also cope with difficulties in compliance brought by geopolitics to help firms build their development platforms for globalization based on Alibaba's experience in cross-border compliance, Yang added.

DingTalk's overseas strategy has also benefited from the rapid growth of the new energy industry abroad, especially the increasing demand in sectors such as photovoltaics and energy storage, according to Yang. Some 66 percent of more than 300 Chinese listed companies related to the new energy sector use DingTalk as their digital collaboration workplace, Yang said.

Global office software giants, including Microsoft, IBM, and Zoom Video Communications, hold the majority of overseas markets, analysts pointed out. Chinese companies such as DingTalk, ByteDance's Lark, and Tencent Holding's VooV Meeting still face challenges with globalization and localized operations.
