Alibaba Will Support Development of E-Commerce, Logistics Systems in Russia, CEO Jack Ma Says Alibaba Will Support Development of E-Commerce, Logistics Systems in Russia, CEO Jack Ma Says

(Yicai Global) Oct. 19 -- Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd. [NYSE:BABA] will support the development of e-commerce and logistics systems in Russia, said Chairman Jack Ma during his visit to that country.

Jack Ma started his three-day visit in Moscow on Oct. 17. He went to the Open Innovation Forum and the International Symposium of Valdai Discussion Club, and gave a speech at Lomonosov Moscow State University yesterday.

AliExpress, Alibaba's international logistics service, has shortened the delivery time from China to Russian customers to 15 days. Russia needs a more modern logistics system to move goods to any regions in the country within 48 hours to 72 hours, Ma said.

Alibaba plans to work with Lomonosov Moscow State University to establish a science and mathematics laboratory for big data and artificial intelligence studies, said Ma. Alibaba's Moscow office has about 100 employees, and Ma said he hopes that number will increase to 5,000 in a decade.

After his speech, Ma gave students interested e-commerce job opportunities an e-mail to send their resumes to.
