Alibaba's New Cloud Database Can Back Up 100 Terabytes of Data in Just One Minute

(Yicai Global) Sept. 22 -- Alibaba Cloud Computing Co., a subsidiary of Chinese internet giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. [NYSE:BABA], has released a new generation of its PolarDB cloud database product, the country's China's first high-performance research database,  China Securities Journal reported on Sept. 21.

PolarDB can fully back up 100 terabytes of data in 60 seconds and create read-only copies of the data in two minutes.

The solution adopts a third-generation distributed shared storage framework to separate computing and storage nodes, enabling both the computing engine and the storage engine to achieve rapid and immediate scalability.

Research shows that the number of users at a rapidly growing tech unicorn can increase from 100,000 users to 10 million in just three months, presenting significant challenges in terms of traditional database frameworks.

Aliyun PolarDB is able to the meet the needs of enterprise users, solving bottleneck issues related to low performance and the expansion possibilities of traditional databases. The product is also low in cost and highly reliable.

Alibaba Cloud Computing, founded in 2009, is the world's leading cloud computing and artificial intelligence technology company. It provides services for companies, developers and government agencies in more than 200 countries and regions. The firm's paid subscribers reached 874,000 in March 2017.
