(Yicai) Feb. 13 -- Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding's cloud computing unit unveiled its second data center in Thailand today as demand for cloud services driven by generative artificial intelligence surges in the Southeast Asian country and to foster digital innovation in the nation.

“The dual data centers will enable Alibaba Cloud to provide scalable, elastic, and highly available cloud computing products with enhanced disaster recovery capabilities tailored to Thailand’s dynamic digital landscape while adhering to stringent security and regulatory standards,” the Hangzhou-based company said today.

“Our latest data center strengthens our commitment to providing reliable, secure, and high-performance cloud services tailored to the needs of local businesses,” said Sean Yuan, vice president of international business at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.

“With enhanced local infrastructure, we aim to empower enterprises to leverage the full potential of cloud technology, especially in generative AI applications,” he added.

Alibaba Cloud set up its first data center in Thailand in 2022. In May last year it announced plans to expand its data center network across Asia. With the latest launch, the company now operates 86 availability zones across 28 regions globally.

Alibaba's AI business has come under the spotlight recently after a report was published by The Information saying that Alibaba is linking arms with US tech giant Apple to develop AI features for iPhone users in China.

This report was confirmed today by Joseph Tsai, co-founder and chairman of Hangzhou-based Alibaba, during the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai.
