(Yicai Global) March 8 -- Chinese-French automobile-manufacturing joint venture Dongfeng Renault Automotive Co. will cooperate with Chinese mega-e-commerce platform Alibaba, Francois Provost, Asia-Pacific chairman and senior vice president of Renault and president of Dongfeng Renault, confirmed at a press briefing, as news outlet auto.sohu.com reported.

The collaboration between Dongfeng Renault and Alibaba will mainly focus on three areas, said Chen Xi, Dongfeng Renault's vice president of marketing. First, Renault Sport Formula One Team will partner with Alibaba's Tmall for the 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship, and Tmall's well-known cat logo will feature conspicuously on the Renault R.S. 18 F1 challenger.

Second, at the technical level, the relationship will be with Alibaba's amap.com. The cooperation also covers the e-commerce area -- or 'new retail' -- with Tmall's flagship stores and Alibaba's online used-car trading emporium souche.com. The teamwork also touches upon financial leasing and other areas. Dongfeng Renault hopes the arrangement reaps more sales for the company.

The most important consideration driving Dongfeng Renault to work with Alibaba is the latter's reach as China's largest business-to-consumer platform with prominent advantages in Big Data. Alibaba's car.tmall.com currently holds data on 50 million car owners and around 80 million potential customers, and this is naturally a big draw for Dongfeng Renault.
