Chinese TV Giant TCL Pledges Carbon Neutrality No Later Than 2050 Chinese TV Giant TCL Pledges Carbon Neutrality No Later Than 2050

(Yicai Global) July 7 -- TCL, China’s largest television set maker, will do its utmost to realize carbon neutrality across its industrial chain by 2050, 10 years ahead of the timeframe proposed by the Chinese government, by making a big push to expand its solar business.

TCL will put to full use unit TCL Zhonghuan Renewable Energy Technology's photovoltaic resources to advance low-carbon transformation across its industrial chain, Chairman Li Dongsheng said at the 2023 TCL Global Partners Conference held in Wuhan, northern Hubei province yesterday.

The Huizhou, southern Guangdong province-based company will set up rooftop PV power stations at its plants in Shenzhen, Wuhan, Huizhou and Suzhou, which are expected to generate 144 million kilowatt hours of green electricity each year, among other measures, Li said.

And TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology will build a green supply chain management platform, encompassing all links of the supply chain from procurement, design, production and logistics to recycling, to cut carbon emissions per unit of output by between 3 percent and 5 percent a year annually, said Zhao Jun, chief executive of TCL’s display panel subsidiary.

TCL Zhonghuan, one of China’s leading solar wafer suppliers, logged a 69 percent jump in net profit last year from the year before to CNY6.8 million (USD939,060) while revenue surged 63 percent to CNY67 million (USD9.3 million), according to its 2022 annual report showed.

The group, which has three listed subsidiaries TCL Zhonghuan, TV maker TCL Electronics Holdings and display panel manufacturer TCL Technology, logged revenue of CNY260 billion (USD35.9 billion) last year.
