(Yicai Global) July 6 -- WeRide has received a license for self-driving taxi services in Beijing's high-level autonomous driving demonstration zone.
WeRide got the permit on June 30, allowing it to offer robotaxi services in the zone's 225-square kilometer core area, the Guangzhou-based developer of self-driving car technology said yesterday.
Users will be able to book the robotaxis via the WeRide Go application and travel to subway stations, business centers, large office parks, and other places in the designated area, it added.
WeRide has been a leader in the self-driving cab industry. It launched China's first autonomous taxi in partnership with Guangzhou Baiyun Taxi Group in November 2018 and began to provide the country's first public service in Guangzhou a year later.
According to WeRide, it has operated robotaxi services for more than 1,200 days without a single accident actively caused by its vehicles.
Founded in 2017, WeRide has researched, developed, tested, and operated in more than 26 cities worldwide and has accumulated over 20 million kilometers of experience. Its products include taxis, buses, vans, sweepers, and other high-level self-driving vehicles.
