(Yicai Global) June 16 -- More content creators in China's film and television industry are starting to use ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence tools, with the effect becoming increasingly significant.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has had a huge impact on the industry, insiders told Yicai Global at the ongoing Shanghai International Film Festival.

Lu Chuan, a well-known Chinese director, has already tried using AI art tool Midjourney to create movie posters and will also use ChatGPT to assist in stage design, character settings, and script writing, he said.

Animated scenes that experienced artists take a month to draw can now be done in the thousands per night, noted Wang Changtian, chairman of TV producer Beijing Enlight Media. Tech innovations will help raise the efficiency of the entire animated film production cycle by about 30 percent, allowing four movies to be made each year instead of three, he pointed out.

However, AI tools are also eliminating jobs, according to Lu, who revealed that a game company he knows used to have 48 animators, but after it started to use AI tech only two are left.

AI will help the imaginative get in touch with the heart of imagination more directly, lowering the threshold for truly imaginative people, but raising it for labor-intensive workers, Lu said.

Instead of being anxious and resistant to AI technology, people should use these tools to up their game, an industry insider said.
