(Yicai Global) June 12 -- US electric carmaker Tesla will not introduce its Full Self-Driving capability function in Shanghai, a source at the US carmaker’s China unit told Shanghai Securities News.
A recent rumor on Chinese social media claimed that Tesla’s FSD would be available in some areas of China, with Shanghai the debut city.
Tesla has three driver assistance systems: autopilot, enhanced autopilot, and FSD. Autopilot includes traffic-aware cruise control and autosteer. Enhanced autopilot includes autopilot’s features plus navigation on autopilot, auto lane change, autopark, summon, and smart summon.
FSD, which is currently only available in North America, includes the features of autopilot and enhanced autopilot, as well as the beta version of stop sign control. It will also have autosteer on city streets in the future.
FSD Beta users traveled 190 million miles, equal to about 306 million kilometers, Tesla founder Elon Musk said at a recent general shareholders meeting. FSD Beta has developed so rapidly that it will be 10 times safer than human drivers, he noted.
The function has not yet landed in China due to different policies and regulations. Tesla has delivered hundreds of thousands of cars that can be upgraded to FSD Beta in China, the carmaker’s second-largest market after the United States.
The Paper reported last month that Shanghai plans to further deepen cooperation with Tesla in the future, promoting the layout of autonomous driving, robotics, and other functional segments, and jointly building a tech industry cluster with core advantages for the global market, citing Chen Kele, an official at the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization.
