(Yicai Global) June 9 -- MiHoYo, the Chinese firm behind the popular action role-playing game Genshin Impact, reportedly had a net profit of CNY16.2 billion (USD2.3 billion) last year.
MiHoYo’s main business income was CNY27.3 billion in 2022 and its net assets stood at CNY37.4 billion, according to figures Guangming Daily published yesterday. The video game developer had an operating income of CNY10.1 billion in 2020, according to the Shanghai Observer's 2021 Shanghai Top 100 Enterprises list.
As a non-listed company, Shanghai-based miHoYo does not disclose its earnings.
Besides the hugely successful Genshin Impact, miHoYo’s titles include two-dimensional side-scrolling brawler Guns Girl Z, action role-playing game Honkai Impact 3rd, and romantic detective adventure Tears of Themis.
Total income from Genshin Impact's mobile version was USD2 billion a year after its launch in September 2020, according to data from Sensor Tower. It was the highest-grossing Chinese game in overseas markets last year and has earned over USD3 billion from global players since its release.
Cai Haoyu, miHoYo’s 36-year-old co-founder, ranked 18th in the Hurun Global U40 Self-Made Billionaires 2023 list, released in April, with CNY21 billion. Its two other founders, Liu Wei and Luo Yuhao, ranked 27th and 30th with CNY11.5 billion and CNY11 billion, respectively.
According to the 2022 New Fortune 500 Rich List published last month, Cai ranked 73rd with CNY55.4 billion.
MiHoYo was set up in 2011 and has more than 5,000 staff.
