(Yicai Global) June 1 -- Leading Chinese e-commerce platforms Tmall, JD.Com, and Pinduoduo have launched their promotions for the mid-year 618 Shopping Festival.
JD.Com kicked off its promotion events at 8 p.m. yesterday. In the following 10 minutes, mobile phones, home appliances, and alcoholic drinks became the most sought-after items, the Beijing-based firm said. Brands including Midea, Haier, Xiaomi, Gree, and Apple quickly had over CNY100 million (USD14 million) in sales, it added.
More than 60 percent of new vendors on JD.Com saw their sales top May’s daily average yesterday, and the transaction amount of more than half of small- and medium-sized sellers tripled, the e-commerce firm added.
Moreover, JD.Com invited popular anchor Luo Yonghao to host a livestreaming event yesterday. During the livestream, Luo sold a property in Hangzhou at a 61.8 percent or CNY1.2 million (USD169,100) discount to a user resident in Shanghai.
Dada Nexus, the Chinese owner of on-demand delivery platforms JD Daojia and Dada Now, said that in the 10 minutes following the launch of JD.Com’s shopping festival promotions, it delivered more than 700 parcels across China, as part of JD.Com’s one-hour delivery service. Among them, the most popular products were men’s clothes, liquor, pet treats, strawberries, furniture, personal care appliances, and digital products. The fastest parcel was delivered in nine minutes.
Alibaba Group Holding’s e-commerce platform Tmall launched its presale campaign on May 26. For each purchase of more than CNY200 (USD28), it offered CNY30 (USD4.22) off, and for those above CNY300, a CNY50 discount.
Taobao, another e-commerce platform of Alibaba, invited more than 100 celebrities to promote its products. Cainiao Network, Alibaba’s logistics arm, said it will deliver parcels overnight in first-tier cities, with some major presale goods delivered in just 12 hours.
Pinduoduo announced it will distribute CNY5 billion (USD700 million) worth of CNY500 coupons between May 30 and June 3. It also added a number of brands, such as Apple, Huawei, and Dyson, to its 10 Billion Yuan shopping channel. Huawei’s Mate 50 Pro is discounted 21 percent to 30 percent, and the iPhone 14 Pro between 17 percent and 23 percent.
