China Grew NEV Charging Network by Over Half in April China Grew NEV Charging Network by Over Half in April

(Yicai Global) May 11 -- China's new energy vehicle charging network is expanding quickly as the number of charging piles rose by more than half in April.

The figure surged by 52 percent to over two million as of last month from a year ago, the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance announced today. Over the past 12 months, member companies in the alliance added 58,000 piles in total every month.

Most of the public infrastructure is located in 10 administrative regions, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu, making up over 71 percent of the total.

From January to April, the number of new piles almost tripled to 882,000 units from a year ago. Meanwhile, sales of NEVs tallied 2.2 million cars. That means that there is one pile for every 2.5 cars, a better ratio for drivers than the one per 2.7 cars logged in 2022.
