(Yicai Global) April 26 -- Apple's main supplier Hon Hai Precision Industry, better known as Foxconn, has opened a new global business headquarters in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou, home to the world’s biggest iPhone factory, to cover the electric vehicles and robotics segments.

Based on Foxconn's existing setup in Henan province, the two new business segments must include related factories and production lines, indicating that the New Taipei-based company’s investment in the province will continue to grow, a local news outlet reported yesterday.

A "new Foxconn" will be built in Henan, Liu Yangwei, the firm’s chairman and general manager, said at the opening ceremony for the new HQ, according to the report.

Foxconn entered Zhengzhou in 2010 and has three factories in the city, one each in the Airport Economy Zone, the Economy Zone, and Baisha Town. The city is Foxconn's biggest production base for smart devices, with a worker headcount in the region of 300,000.

Foxconn's revenue rose 10.5 percent to a record TWD6.62 trillion (USD215.4 billion) in the 12 months ended Dec. 31 from the year before, its latest earnings report showed. Revenue was TWD1.96 trillion (USD64.3 billion) in the fourth quarter of last year, its second highest ever.

Annual and fourth-quarter revenues were a little better than market estimates and the company's own expectations, Foxconn said.
