(Yicai) Sept. 26 -- The 11 movies that will be in Chinese cinemas during the Golden Week holiday from Sept. 29 to Oct. 6 are expected to break the box office record set in the same period of 2019.

China's box office for the movies that will be released during the eight-day Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday is likely to be between CNY5.5 billion and CNY7.7 billion (USD752.4 million and USD1.1 billion), according to Everbright Securities' research institute. The figure will reach CNY4.9 billion, China International Capital predicted.

During the 2019 Golden Week, movies in Chinese cinemas racked up CNY4.5 billion.

The new films that will be in theaters for the upcoming eight-day holiday include crime drama Under the Light, directed by Zhang Yimou, The Great War, a movie about the Chinese People's Volunteer Army, directed by Chen Kaige, as well as animations I Am Nezha 2 and Mars Mission.

However, there are still risks that the movies will not be shown on schedule due to reputational issues of participating actors and actresses, professionals warned.

Ticket sales will likely remain unchanged from the same period in 2019, Topsperity Securities predicted based on data from ticketing platform Maoyan. The securities firm also mentioned the record 284 million moviegoers during the summer holidays and promotions on short-video platforms such as Douyin.

The films in cinemas for the upcoming holiday are similar to those in 2018 and 2019 in terms of number and quality, Topsperity Securities noted.

The box office for this year will total CNY57 billion (USD7.8 billion), Topsperity Securities added.
