(Yicai Global) June 12 – A delegation from the Olympic Council of Asia visited Sanya in South China's Hainan province to inspect its venues and facilities as a candidate city to host the 2020 Asian Beach Games.
The delegation visited the venues and hotel facilities in the city June 9-11 and held a feedback meeting, local newspaper Sanya Daily reported. Sanya will send a delegation to Indonesia in August to attend the Olympic Council of Asia meeting to find out the winning bid. The meeting, which will be held in Jakarta on Aug. 19, will announce the host city for the sixth Asian Beach Games.
The Asian Beach Games is the largest beach sports event in the continent. The event includes more than 20 sports such as beach soccer, beach volleyball, beach handball, jet skiing, kite surfing, triathlon and beach marathon.
The first Asian Beach Games was held in 2008 and has so far successfully held five games. The 2016 Olympic Council of Asia meeting decided to hold the games every four years, with the sixth games scheduled for 2020.
