Jike Claims Infringement Against Lizhi Jike Claims Infringement Against Lizhi

(Yicai Global) Feb. 2 -- Jike, an app run by Shanghai Ruoyou Network Technology Co., Ltd. accused Internet giant Tencent Holdings Ltd.'s new app Lizhi of infringement, whereupon Tencent withdrew it.

Tencent's app store Yingyongbao contacted Jike under the pretext of desiring cooperation last year, a Jike employee claimed on social media. Yingyongbao's team proposed introducing the latter into its app, but then copied Jike's content to produce Lizhi.

With features very similar to Jike, Lizhi, which debuted and underwent testing Jan. 31, offers information push and user subscriptions and provides users with popular interest information via Big Data processing and editorial screening. Tencent voluntarily withdrew Lizhi from app stores and rectified it after just one-day of testing.

Tencent is a major company shareholder that has greatly helped its development, and this event occurred mainly because of lack of communication between the two teams, Wa Nen, Jike's chief executive, explained today.

Competition in China's information flow market is intense. Toutiao, which Beijing Bytedance Technology Co. recently developed and which leads the pack, sued Baidu Inc. for disseminating derogatory information to harm its reputation by exploiting its domestic search engine monopoly.
