(Yicai Global) May 17 -- Gong Zhenbing, former chief executive officer of Baidu Waimai, the food ordering and delivery platform which Baidu Inc. sold to rival Ele.me backed by Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., joined China's ride-hailing platform Yidao Yongche, operated by TWC Group, as its CEO.

Gong officially joined the Yidao ranks today, media reports said, although the platform has yet to make an official statement.

Last September, China's major online food ordering and delivery firm Ele.me backed by internet conglomerate Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. acquired Baidu Waimai and appointed Gong, former CEO of Baidu Waimai, as the chairman responsible for the key business strategy of the group.

Wei Hai, former president of Ele.me, was appointed the new CEO of Baidu Waimai, responsible for the implementation of Baidu Waimai business and dual-brand strategy.

Gong joined Baidu in 2003 and created Baidu Waimai in May 2014, public data show. Baidu sold its money-losing food delivery unit to its rival Ele.me. Gong resigned from Baidu Waimai in March.
