(Yicai Global) April 13 -- State-owned China Railway Group Ltd., the largest construction firm in the world in terms of revenues, will expedite work on the a 6,200-meter double-track tunnel as part of the rail-line project from Ganzhou in China’s southern Jiangxi province to Shenzhen in neighboring Guangdong province.
Despite the close proximity of the two cities, the railway line goes through another nearby Hunan province due to the rough terrain in the region, an industry insider told Yicai Global.
The CNY64.1 billion (USD10.1 billion) Ganzhou-Shenzhen high-speed railway is the southernmost section of the Beijing-Hong Kong Passenger Line, and will also go through Heyuan, Huizhou, Dongguan. It will run at 350 kilometers per hour and stretch 436 kilometers. It is scheduled to be completed in September 2021.
Jiangxi’s economic foundation is relatively weak, due to relatively low urbanization and small economic volume, said Jiang Tianxiang, associate professor at the Culture and Tourism College of Guangxi Normal University. The lack of railway infrastructure is a key factor in this, he added.
The construction the line will greatly promote the connection between Jiangxi and Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, accelerating economic development and urbanization in the south of Jiangxi, Jiang added.
