(Yicai Global) Oct. 12 -- More than 45 duty-free stores have settled in the China-Kazakstan Horgos Frontier International Cooperation Center, Yicai Global has learned from the Horgos city government.

On average 20,000 travellers traverse the center each day, which nets average daily proceeds of over USD758,000 (CNY5 million) per day from their purchases, making it the largest duty-free shopping zone in Western China, as China News Service reported today.

As the world's first cross-border free trade and investment cooperation zone, the center is open to Chinese and Kazakhstan citizens or those of a third country upon presentation of a passport, entry and exit permit or other valid certificate, without the need of a visa. Each Chinese citizen may bring away articles worth CNY8,000 each day.

The cooperation center is a special area "located both inside and outside the territory,"said Xu Xinming, vice chairman of the Horgos political committee and its commercial and economic information office. All commodities in the center are free from duty or value-added tax, and thus very advantageous in price.

"More than 45 duty-free stores settled in the center with daily average passenger traffic of 20,000 and a daily average purchasing amount of RMB5 million, making it the largest duty-free shopping zone in Western China," Xu said.
