(Yicai Global) Aug. 11 -- Cinemas in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu will start operating at 50 percent capacity from Aug. 14, according to several media reports.

After being shuttered for the better part of six months due to the Covid-19 pandemic, cinemas in low-risk areas of China’s cities only started to reopen at 30 percent capacity from July 20.

Now, the rules have been relaxed further to do away with the compulsory intermission period for two-hour-long films, enabling audiences to watch them without interruption, The Paper reported today. The news was confirmed by Guangzhou news outlet Information Times and the Chengdu Media Group's Red Star News. Movie theaters can also now sell snacks but viewers must not eat them in the open hall.
